ALISTAIR BUTT RSMA

portrait_location
Alistair has exhibited at galleries across the country where he has had either one-man shows or mixed exhibitions. For several years now Alistair’s paintings have been included in the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries, in London. In 2007 he was elected an Associate member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists (ARSMA). In 2008, Alistair won The Ranelagh Press Award, the first time it was awarded at the RSMA with one of his watercolour paintings. In 2009 Alistair was elected a full member of the RSMA.

He has also shown work at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour’s (RI) exhibitions and more recently at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) exhibitions, both at the Mall Galleries. He was a finalist in the RI Young Artist Award; an exhibitor (via invitation by Ron Ranson) in the UK section entitled “Master Painters of the World” of the International Artist Magazine; he was selected as one of the top “50 Masters of Watercolour” in Europe, for the French magazine Pratique des Arts and has an article in the launch issue of L’ Art de l’Aquarelle, a magazine spotlighting the best watercolourists of the world.

Alistair attended his first art college after leaving school, for four years. This was followed by a further three years studying Technical Illustration and then working as a graphic designer and illustrator in the advertising industry. Having left the advertising industry, Alistair now paints full time working in both watercolour and oil.

Like many artists, Alistair finds the seaside, boats & harbour’s a great source for paintings. From sedate creeks and marshes, small sandy coves, pebbled beaches to pounding waves on jagged rocks, through to the fishing boats and equipment that adds a human element and scale. All this without forgetting the wide variety of small but wonderful fishing villages or harbour’s scattered around the British coastline, each with their own unique feeling and identity.

Alistair will be showing work at The Mall Galleries in October as part of the annual Royal Society of Marine Artists’ exhibition.
