portrait
Paul Bailey has made the leap from employee to full-time painter and has moved his family and his studio to mid-Wales. The coastal farming landscape in East Anglia has been his predominant source of inspiration: low rolling hills; intermittent woodland; ancient, windswept hedgerows; slowly winding brooks and dead-straight drains; patch-work fields; distant sea; and vast skies but we shall expect to see more windswept moorlands and hills with rocky coastal landscapes soon. The semi-abstract nature of the work, the use of non-traditional techniques together with bold compositions and dynamic use of colour, help portray this seemingly prosaic landscape in a new, vivid and surprising way.
