Linda Farquharson

Linda Farquharson is based in Perthshire. She is a graduate of the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. Linda makes prints using lino and wood block and she frequently produces reduction prints where the original block is reduced for each colour, resulting in a destroyed block at the end. Linda also works at Sea Pictures Gallery as our Guest Linocut Tutor and full details about the courses can be found on the website.

Twice a year Linda travels south to the gallery to run our Linocut Print Workshops. They are held in March and November each year and are extremely popular. We have four students per day so that Linda is able to devote time and attention to each person and the results are truly amazing. We offer a one day course for total beginners and a two day option for those with more experience who want to be really creative with multiple blocks and colours. All materials are supplied together with a freshly prepared two-course lunch with cake and biscuits to accompany the tea and coffee breaks. Frequently people book for the next course immediately they finish the first! Visit the page about the courses for more details and to see what previous students have achieved Workshops

Linda was born in 1963 and studied Illustration at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, graduating B A (Hons) in 1986. She wond the Sekalski Prize for Printmaking in 1985. She specialised in relief printmaking and continues to work primarily with lino printing and wood engraving. In 1990 she purchased and restored a Columbian press, which has pride of place in her bothy studio

For many years she worked as a commercial artist based in Edinburgh, and also lectured in art part time whilst exhibiting her prints nationally.

Recent commissions include W B Yeats’ Irish Fairy and Folk Tales (for The Folio Society 2007) and Sir Walter Scott’s The Lady of The Lake (for The Association for Scottish Literary Studies 2010).

Now based in Highland Perthshire, her work remains infused with the outdoor world and inspiration is never very far from her back door. A recent series of prints features birds in flight, experimenting with repeat elements through collage and cut-out techniques.
